As business owner and buyer for my store I would be lying if I said I didn't love most things in my store. Obviously I wouldn't buy them if I didn't like them or didn't think it was a good product. That being said I have a few lines that I am particularly fond of and one of those is Saako! I discovered their handmade scarves when I was studying abroad in Spain over 10 years ago. I kept a little journal during my year abroad and wrote down anything that I really wanted to remember. One of my lists consisted of brands that I wanted to carry if and when I ever fulfilled my life long dream of opening my own boutique. When the day finally came I remembered to look at that journal and I contacted a few of the brands that I had found abroad. Saako was one of the first lines I carried in my store.
Saako scarves our handmade by Ines Brito and Joana Gouveia of Portugal. After finishing university the two young women decided they wanted to create something solely using their hands. Soon after, the duo relocated to Barcelona and discovered the ability of transforming the famous ribbed, jersey fabric of their native Portugal into trendy, affordable, unique neckwear. ‘Re-use’ was the philosophy of the young designers and over time, their products evolved with more delicacy and style. Saako’s scarf-like necklaces are animated, tactile and earthy; vibrant; Mediterranean, and beg to be touched. Each is handmade, by local women long familiar with the proud traditions of Portuguese and Spanish textiles.
Below is a video they recently shot in Barcelona for their Summer Collection 12'
